The project aims to analyze and develop a hospital medical waste management strategy during the Covid-19 period. Along with increased cases of Covid-19, the volume of medical waste produced by hospitals also suffered significant surges, including self-defense devices, masks, gloves and other medical materials. Inappropriate medical waste management could have negative effects on the environment and the health of society, which is increasingly risky in the midst of the pandemic situation.

The background of this project focuses on the challenges that hospitals face in medical waste management which corresponds to strict health protocols. The profound understanding of human resources, tools and processes involved in management of medical waste is crucial to ensuring the hygiene and continuity of hospital operations. Therefore, this project aims to design more efficient and sustainable strategies in hospital waste management, considering the limitations that exist during pandemic.

The primary purpose of this project is to identify the best methods in management of medical waste in the poor city Islamic hospital, with focus on increasing resource utilization, risk reduction of infection, and setting up standard health. The impact of developed strategy implementation is expected to reduce the negative impact on the environment, increase the safety of medical personnel, as well as raise hospital awareness to the importance of sustainable medical waste management. It will also provide the basis for other hospitals in strengthening their future medical waste management systems.
